Here’s a shoot where I am on the other side of the camera! This shoot is so special to Chafin and me! Have you ever been at a point in life where you need to make a huge decision, and instead of doing what any sane, normal person would do, you make the craziest choice and just go for it? Well that’s what we did. That’s how we found ourselves in a situation where we were sleeping on an air mattress in the middle of a shell of a house, making coffee out of the barely working bathroom sink, and living on trader joe’s microwave tamales. Back it up a few months and let me explain how we got here. Shortly before our wedding, Chafin got a new job in a new city, and he would start it one week after our honeymoon. We began looking for apartments in the city of Richmond where his job was. One day, we stopped by a house for sale. It was in a darling historic part of town, by the beautiful Cliff Inn, the Cultural Art’s Center, and a Park. The house however, was in shambles. No one was around and the back door happened to be unlocked, so we snuck in. There was peeling wall paper and old lace over the windows, the place was in horrible condition but I fell absolutely in love with it! Windows everywhere, a beautiful old hearth, plaster walls. The place had good bones. So we did the crazy thing, we bought the old place. Over the next few months, we loved it back to life. We moved into the mess so that we could spend more time working on it and less time commuting. Now, it’s been over a year and we are all settled in to the homiest home we could imagine. We have made it truly ours. And that is why these photos are so special to us. This is the place we wake up in the morning, that we come home to at night. It’s our happy place, it’s where we live, it’s our home. All photos by the lovely Peyton Curry.
